Document Drive

Smart file storage, organized by case.

Every PI case generates a mountain of documents — medical records, police reports, insurance correspondence, demand letters, photos, and more. Keeping these organized across shared network drives, email attachments, and desktop folders is a constant source of frustration. inTrial's Document Drive gives every case its own cloud-based file system with smart folder structures, full-text search, and seamless integration with every other feature in your workflow.

Included in your subscription. Standalone tools charge $15-30/user/month for cloud storage.

Folder organization

Smart folders for every case type

When you open a new auto accident case, inTrial creates folders for Medical Records, Insurance, Pleadings, Correspondence, and Photos. A slip-and-fall case gets different folders — Incident Reports, Premises Records, and Witness Statements. Folder templates are fully customizable by case type so your team always knows where documents belong.

  • Auto-created folder structure when a case is opened
  • Different folder templates for different case types
  • Custom folders and sub-folders as needed
  • Consistent organization across your entire caseload

Frequently asked questions

How is Document Drive different from the Drives feature?
Document Drive is the core file storage system that organizes documents within each case. The Drives feature adds advanced capabilities on top — secure external sharing with email verification, configurable share link expiration, and detailed access tracking for shared files. Think of Document Drive as your internal filing system and Drives as the collaboration and sharing layer.
Is there a storage limit?
There is no per-case storage limit. Individual files can be up to 500 MB each, which covers virtually all legal documents including large medical imaging files like DICOM. Your subscription includes unlimited storage across all cases.
Can I customize the folder structure?
Yes. You can define folder templates per case type — auto accident cases get one set of folders, medical malpractice gets another. You can also add custom folders and sub-folders to any case at any time. Your firm's folder templates apply automatically whenever a new case is created.
How does search work across cases?
The global search bar searches across all files in all cases simultaneously. You can filter results by case, folder, file type, or date range. For scanned documents and faxes, AI-powered OCR extracts the text content so even image-based PDFs are searchable by their contents.
How does Document Drive integrate with other inTrial features?
Document Drive is the central hub for all case documents. Generated documents from the Document Generator are auto-saved here. Incoming faxes via eFax are AI-sorted into the correct folder. Files shared in Team Chat are auto-filed to the case drive. Documents sent for E-Sign are tracked here with signature status. Everything flows through the case drive.
